Digitalisation and automation in orthodontics and orthognathic surgery

Digitalisation in orthodontics is becoming the norm rather than the exception in clinical practice due to the advantages that it brings: 3D case appraising for visualisation and sophisticated diagnostic possibilities, objective treatment planning and results assessment which all lead to predictability of the result.

The use of CBCT imaging, Intra-oral scanning and 3D facial imaging has made it possible to create virtual copies of our patients which in turn help us perform more accurate diagnosis and treatment plans than ever.

This lecture will shed light upon the enhancement of digital workflows in orthodontics by means of automatisation and artificial intelligence (AI). Various steps in the workflow will be illustrated with clinical cases and we will discuss tips for implementing new technologies in the orthodontic practice from creation of the virtual patient, through treatment planning and outcome evaluation.
