Benjamin Salmon

Prof. Benjamin SALMON (DDS, PhD) is oral surgeon, Head of the Bretonneau hospital dental medicine department (AP-HP, Paris) and Vice Dean for hospital affairs (Université Paris Cité - Faculté de Chirurgie Dentaire).

Appointed as full professor in 2018, BS is in charge of the dentomaxillofacial imaging department at Paris Descartes University since 2012 and researcher at the laboratory of orofacial pathologies, imaging and biotherapies (UR2496).

His PhD (2009-12) was focused on biomineralization of dental stem cells in the context of rare genetic disorders such as X-linked hypophosphatemia.

His skills in preclinical imaging (in vivo microCT) were emphasized during a 15 months postdoctoral research fellow in the division of plastic and reconstructive surgery of Stanford University (USA), where he worked on several bone regenerative models and original tissue engineering approaches (Prof. Jill HELMS team).

Also, BS was involved as partner in the European project DIMITRA (OPERRA / 2015-17) leading by Prof. Reinhilde JACOBS (KU Leuven) and significantly contributed to the optimization guidelines in paediatric dental 3D radiology (Cone Beam CT).

BS developed national and international active collaborations, more specifically with Stanford University (USA), KU Leuven (Belgium) and UNICAMP (Brazil) as well as partnership with manufacturers.

BS was granted by the Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale (France), the Philippe Foundation (USA), the European Union and is (co-)author of over 60 articles in peer-reviewed journals besides multiple French lectures, books and publications.
