He graduated from the University of Adelaide Dental School in 1982 and received a fellowship at the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 1986. He graduated from UTHSC in San Antonio with a Master's Certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and has been a lecturer at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry since 1993. He is currently chair of the Department of Oral Health and Diagnosis and diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (ABOMR).
He is also past president and treasurer of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and past vice president and North American regional director of the International Association of Dento-Maxillofacial Radiology.
Moreover, he is a member of the American College of Dentists and International Team for Implantology (ITI) and was Editor of the Radiology Section of Oral Surgery Oral Pathology Oral Medicine Oral Radiology and is currently a member of the Editorial Board of the Australian Dental Journal.
He also is director of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and Published extensively on cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), including recent consensus statements on general and specific use guidelines and discipline-specific applications of CBCT. He co-authored chapters on CBCT in the most recent edition of the standard undergraduate dental textbook used in the United States, White and Pharoah's Oral Radiology: Principles and Interpretation. His book CBCT: Maxillofacial 3D Imaging Applications, was released in January 2018.
He is currently an international lecturer and is active in research on the clinical applications of CBCT imaging.
